Mexican wolf

  • The Mexican Wolf is a smaller relative of the Grey Wolf living in the United States. It is the kind of Wolf that is in greater danger of extinction and only some few live freely. The Mexican Wolf once had an extensive territory, mostly in the Southwest, but now lives in a very small area.
  • The Mexican Wolf was part of the nature of Mexico until the 1970s.
  • Although it is considered extinct in the wild, there are still populations in captivity and reintroduced in the southwest of the United States in 1998.
  • Recently, in October 2011 is reintroduced the first five Mexican Wolves to the Sierra de San Luis in the northeastern Sonora, after 30 years of being absent from the country. This reintroduction offers a second chance to keep it as an important part of our ecosystem.
